Shotteswell Village Hall

Hall Layout and Accessibility

The hall is accessed through double doors leading into a bright foyer, where separate ladies’, gents’, and disabled toilets—with baby changing facilities—are located. A temporary ramp is available for wheelchair access. The main hall measures 11m x 6m and connects directly to a modern, fully equipped kitchen via a single door and serving hatch. A second external door and hallway are also accessed from the main hall.

Capacity, Furniture and Kitchen Facilities

The hall can accommodate up to sixty seated guests, with thirty-two upholstered chairs, sixty plastic chairs, and sixteen collapsible tables available (ten 1.8m Gopac tables and six 1.2m square tables). Additional trestle tables are also provided.

The kitchen is equipped with a cooker, hob, microwave, fridge, plate warmer, hostess trolley, and crockery/cutlery for sixty people. Wine and beer glasses are included, and the hall holds a Level 5 Food Hygiene Certificate.

Heating, Lighting and Technical Features

Lighting options include high-level fluorescent and LED fittings, alongside suspended low-level lighting on a dimmer switch to suit any occasion. Heating is supplied through a renewable air source heat pump, which can be controlled on-site or remotely by the management committee.

Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the building, with connection details displayed on the main hall noticeboard. A retractable screen and projector are also available—please request these in advance if required.

Regular Activities and Community Use

Shotteswell Village Hall hosts a wide range of events and activities, including children’s parties, celebrations, fitness classes, baby groups, quiz nights, community meetings, village clubs, and elections. Regular groups include Tai Chi Chic, Ballet, monthly Lunch in the Hall in aid of St Laurence Church, and a monthly Breakfast Club. Details of upcoming events can be found under the News and Events section.

Sustainability and Energy Efficiency

Sustainability is a key priority for the trustees. Over recent years, extensive improvements have been made to reduce the hall’s carbon footprint. All windows have been upgraded to UPVC double-glazed units, an air source heat pump now provides heating and hot water, and in January 2024 solar panels were installed to reduce reliance on the National Grid.
